Yet another outstanding creation by this talented author! The writer's style is very creative, unique, well seasoned and of a tasteful quality. I genuinely enjoyed the bones of the story, the creation of the names, places, and the compelling adventurous ride along as the characters were interestingly developed. Sensational! I particularly loved the consistency of affection that Padraig paid to Thea...although I didn't think she deserved it at all. I can't say that I liked her attitude much. And the question of the future between the developing bond of Evon and Alekai plagues you and leaves much to the imagination...I highly recommend this book. Great read :)Product details

I am a long time science fiction reader and have read many wonderful stories that are based on science, technology, engineering. A few years ago I purchased a and it has opened up opportunities for me to read more with less effort and at less expense.
I had this book recommended by a friend who has very different taste than mine. I ignored him. He then sent this to me. WOW I was hooked from the first paragraph. I found myself in a very different world but Robin has the ability to have you understand the whole world you have entered and preserve the utter standard of strangeness. It starts as a war story but just below the surface is a flight to survive and on another level a love story. I will not give spoilers but you will be very surprised. This is a writer to put on your list. Robin is very definitely on mine.
I love a good story and an author with the skill to hold my attention. Two nights running I read an hour past my normal bedtime. Looking forward for a continuation of this story and further development of the characters.
What an awesome original novel by Fitzgerald. I bought this book while traveling, and had a very enjoyable time reading it. I just feel in love with the plot and characters within minutes of reading. Looking forward to more of Fitzgerald's work. Highly recommended.
I would like to give my review a 2.5 stars since it wasn't bad enough for a 2 and not good enough for a 3 in my opinion. The overall storyline was OK and the characters were interesting. The opening chapter was confusing because it seemed like the main soldier characters were insects because of the references to their shells, eyestalks and how at one point they stood in front of huge 'shrooms". That didn't clear up until later.
The biggest and most annoying problems I had reading this book were all the typos, calling the characters by different names, using incorrect pronouns (he instead of she, etc.), not capitalizing characters' names, using the wrong words ("Evon, luck for him, was up ...."). It took much longer to read this book than it should have.
I would like to reread this book if someone proof-read it and cleaned up the problems.
Ok, on the plus side the author can write a hell of an action sequence. And she creates characters that have their own voices within the book. The book was well paced and entertaining.
I'm going to sound a bit harsh on the downside but I actually did like the book quite a bit.
1. Backstory got filled in with a few sentences here and there that could have been entertaining flashback scenes.
2. I would have liked to see the world fleshed out a bit more than it was in this book. It would have drawn me in a more.
3. Editing. Editing. Editing. It is completely jarring when the wrong "your" is used.
This book is worth reading and is the start of something great I think.
